One of the questions I often hear is "How do you come up with ideas?" That question usually comes from friends who aren't writers. Writers know where and how to come up with ideas. The question I usually hear from other writers is "How do you turn your ideas into stories?" We each have our own ways of going about that process, of course. But sometimes it's helpful to know how other writers approach the process.
In the last week, I've written three short stories, each one different, yet each one reflecting my light-hearted, humorous outlook on falling in love. One is a story of young love just beginning, another is a story of fixing up a love-gone-wrong, and the newest -- one I wrote earlier this evening -- is about meeting the right person at just the right time.
As I've written these stories, I've tried to make mental notes of the step-by-step process I've followed. Where did the idea come from? What decisions did I make? How did I get from idea to story? The answers are in a new page I've added to the site: More Tips on Telling Stories. You'll find the link at the bottom of the "Tips on Telling Stories" page.
