Now that we're all caught up in the frenzy of National Novel Writing Month, it's good to have an occasional laugh or two. I got a good one yesterday when I checked my horoscope and found this:
"You may have a clear idea where you are going today, but your plan to get there may be flawed with faulty logic or incorrect information. Luckily, you have the means to overcome poor reasoning if you are willing to trust your intuition. Don't worry about the details now; just be flexible and play it ... Continue reading...

It's November 1 which means that "NaNoWriMo" -- National Novel Writing Month -- is officially underway. Like many other writers, I lined up at the starting gate precisely at midnight, eager to begin a new romance. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to turn back the clock and gain an extra hour. I haven't updated my word count on the official site yet, but I'll head that way and do it soon. For now, I just wanted to post a short note to recognize the official start of this momentous event.... Continue reading...

While browsing around Barnes & Noble this weekend, I came across a great addition to any writer's library. It's a book titled The Daily Writer, by Fred White. The sub-title is 366 meditations to cultivate a productive and meaningful writing life.
Yep, that's right. 366 daily meditations/prompts to get your day going. I've always had fun doing little prompts or what I sometimes call "Silly Writing" -- just putting together random ideas and letting my imagination run wild with it. It's what... Continue reading...

Although I love Dickins, my playful muse, right now he's being decidedly difficult. He's been whining and complaining because I've been insisting on working on my historical romance novel instead of letting him play around with new stories. He's bored with "The Wrong Woman" and is chomping at the bit, wanting to work on one of the other projects he's added to my list of things-to-do. All in good time, Dickins, all in good time! To appease him tonight, I let him help me add another "Tips for ... Continue reading...

Sometimes I wish I'd never named this blog "Falling in Love with Love". Every time I come here to post, that song starts playing through my head and turns into an annoying "brain worm" that won't go away. For those of you who may never have heard the song "Falling in Love with Love", the words go like this:
Falling in love with love is falling for make-believe Falling in love with love is playing the fool Caring too much is such a juvenile fancy Learning to trust is just for children in schoo... Continue reading...

I forgot to mention that one of my short stories will be appearing as the featured Valentine's romance story on The Long and the Short of It. Watch for it next February! It's titled "Be Careful with Your Heart". Since Valentine's Day is the most romantic of our holidays, I'm also putting together a Valentine website. I hope to have it ready to share soon after the first of the year. If you have favorite Valentine links or ideas for a Valentine site, please let me know. You can always e-mai... Continue reading...

One of the questions I often hear is "How do you come up with ideas?" That question usually comes from friends who aren't writers. Writers know where and how to come up with ideas. The question I usually hear from other writers is "How do you turn your ideas into stories?" We each have our own ways of going about that process, of course. But sometimes it's helpful to know how other writers approach the process.
In the last week, I've written three short stories, each one different, yet e... Continue reading...

Work in Progress
Following a disastrous broken engagement, Abigail Rose hopes to put her shameful past behind her and begin a new life as a respectable teacher in St. Paul, but her future plans are thrown topsy-turvy when a handsome stranger steals her away from the train station in Des Moines.
Will Loudon thinks he's abducting Honey Branson, his brother's fiance, and he intends to use her as a "bargaining chip" to get his share of the inheritance Jack stole from him.
Although Will abducts the wrong woman, Abigail's cheerful attitude and caring nature help him overcome the anger and bitterness of his own past, making him wonder if perhaps he's found the right woman, after all.
